On-grid solar is primarily one of the most effective and profitable solutions for reducing electricity bills. This system is connected to the national grid. During the daytime, solar panels generate electricity from sunlight, and that electricity is used directly to power the electricity needs of homes, offices, factories, or commercial establishments. As a result, less electricity is drawn from the grid, which helps reduce the monthly electricity bill. Any additional electricity generated by the system can be supplied to the national grid, creating further savings opportunities through net metering.
On-grid solar is especially suitable for factories, office buildings, educational institutions, hospitals, cold storage facilities, garment factories, and other commercial establishments. These facilities usually consume a significant amount of electricity during the daytime, which matches well with the peak production period of a solar system. Consequently, direct use of the generated solar power significantly reduces electricity costs. In many commercial and industrial establishments, the payback period of an on-grid solar system can be around 4 years, while a high-quality solar system can continue producing electricity for 25 years or more.
Another major advantage of on-grid solar is that it usually does not require batteries. Therefore, the initial investment is comparatively lower, and maintenance is easier. However, a standard on-grid solar system has one important limitation: when the grid is unavailable or during load shedding, the system usually shuts down. This happens because, for safety reasons, an on-grid inverter stops supplying electricity when the grid is not present.
However, for industrial and commercial establishments, there is an effective solution to this limitation. By integrating an on-grid solar system with a fuel save controller and a diesel generator, solar electricity can still be produced and used during daytime load shedding. In this setup, the solar system works in coordination with the generator and helps reduce the generator’s fuel consumption. In other words, solar panels can power the load during the day, even during load shedding, if there is enough sunlight. This is an important advantage for factories and commercial establishments.
